We assume you have heard that in recent days (12-13 Nov) Venice has been flooded by an unexpected and exceptional tide, that has caused considerable damage and trouble to the whole population and businesses. One of them is a partner of our contest: the Giudecca795 contemporary art gallery. It’s been a most unexpected event for them, as the place had never been flooded before!
No worries for the contest monthly winners: the gallery manager and assistant have already lifted, and saved the great majority of artworks (among them, the awarded prints)
But much work is still to be done at the gallery because of the amount of stuff. Obviously their rush against time is being blocking the gallery business. And we are willing to help, first of all sharing this information.
If interested, join the gallery’s mailing list, as they are thinking of a special campaign for the upcoming festivities, to raise some money, try to cover the damages, and free some space. The campaign will include some objects and papers which survived the exceptional aqua alta, and will present a selection of interesting talents that the gallery intends to continue promoting and nurturing. The gallery’s aim is to keep up the good work.
In the meanwhile… the photo contest continues! A new category prize “acquaalta”, with the intention to have the winning photo print take part in a fund raising event for Venice.

In Love With Venice? Dreaming to come back? Take a chance: it’s the OneDayInVenezia.com Photo contest
The sooner you enter the competition, the better, as the contest, at its 1st edition, gives monthly awards;
and even if not awarded monthly, every photo will be exhibited digitally at the venue, and will have the chance to be reviewed again at the end of the contest (24 September 2016), and win a new special art prize by the Gallery. Next deadlines for submitting pictures of Venice to the monthly competitions: 24 August, 24 September 2016. Keep calm, and hurry up!
Among the contest’s partners:
the Hilton Molino Stucky, Harry’s Bar by Arrigo Cipriani, Ristorante Da Ivo (George Clooney‘s favorite restaurant in Venice), Gran Caffè Quadri in St.Mark’s Square, Consorzio Venice Water Taxi, and the Giudecca 795 Art Gallery.
The theme of the photo competition is “One day in Venice; what is your main memory?”. The way to enter the competition is by online registration at www.onedayinvenezia.com where you can find all details and regulations. You will then redirected to submit your photo via the website.
Among the photo contest’s features:
ALL entered photos receive exposure at the Giudecca 795 Art Gallery, whose main mission is to encourage new talents; every submitted photo will be displayed for one month at the gallery (on the occasion of the Venice Biennale of Architecture), so the more entered photos, the more exposure for the author – and this is especially appreciated by people who would like to become professional photographers. Also, all contest participants visiting the gallery personally will receive one t-shirt for free while supplies last. (Check the website for Summertime opening hours).
The monthly awarded win the free partecipation to the finalist group show with a fine art print of their work, that will enter the show, held at the art gallery with a preview at the Hilton Molino Stucky Venice Hotel, and will have their photo published in the 2017 Hilton Venice Calendar. Among them, the final grand winner will be chosen; but ALL photos, awarded or not, will have the chance to be reviewed again at the end of the contest in October 2016, for an additional final special prize by the art gallery. You can submit more than one photo, and in more months.
The official Yearly Grand Prize consists of two days in Venice with the collaboration of the partners, with the best of Venitian cuisine and hospitality, the very own solo show, and a programme of events to attend. The participation to the contest has been encouraging, and the organization (the Venitian association Il Leone di Plastica) will be doing their best to offer the journey to Venice as complimentary to the grand yearly winner and companion (provided that it is obviously impossible to guess where the winner will come from, in an international competition).
What more? A digital catalogue is in preparation. All the above has a symbolic entry fee (10 euros) aimed to cover the costs of staff and exhibition, and help underwrite art projects in Venice.
